Flamboyant, yet peaceful.
In-your-face colors.
Brilliant reds,
golden yellows.
Glorious autumn sunshine.
Twirling in midair
leaves swirling, floating,
landing softly
down below
in the dark waters.
The dark waters of the Bosque…
Reading the maple leaves,
quietly pondering.
Another year’s gone by
As the wheel of life
keeps turning …
The Bosque, or grove, is the central plaza at the Oregon Garden. It was created with four brick reflecting pools which contain a total of forty plantar boxes, each containing one single Pacific Sunset Maple.
This grove was one of the most beautiful spaces I have ever been in. There were few people, so it was quiet and peaceful there, with the maple trees foliage seemingly on fire.
The Oregon Garden at seemingly peak autumn colors was an incredible sight. I will post more photos of this special place! Being able to visit a beautiful place like this so close to my home really made me feel lucky. I hope to return many times during the different seasons in the coming years.

Thanks so much! I can’t remember having ever seen such a glorious display of fall colors! These Pacific Sunset Maples were tame compared to many of the other displays. 😊

Hey LuAnne, yes it’s about 45 to 60 minutes south east of Portland, depending on traffic. One of the most beautiful gardens I’ve ever seen. 🙋

I’ll have to remember that if I ever come to Portland. I enjoyed the Japanese Garden the one time I have been to the area.

Yes, it’s worth a visit! I haven’t been to the Japanese Garden, but the Chinese Garden is sublime! Plus they have an amazing tea house. Lots of great stuff to do around here, especially outdoors! I hope you visit again!

I keep thinking of moving to Oregon now that my husband and I are both retired and all our kids have moved away. We have one in Seattle and one in Denver (the other one is in Germany) so we’d be closer to them than we are now in MI. But I love MI and have many writing friends here.

No matter what, it’s important that one has a good network of friends and resources, wherever one lives. I’m sure you guys will figure out what it is what you want and where you want it. Rarely do we get everything all the time! 😉

Sabine, my husband and I are flying into Portland this Thursday and staying a day before we have a family vacation in Bend. I remembered your photos of this place and will try to find it. LuAnne, no visit to Portland is complete with browsing Powell’s Books downtown! The Chinese Garden is always a treat, but the Japanese one is gorgeous as well. If you go to Bend via Salem, you should take a couple of hours and stop at the Oregon Garden in Silverton! Have a fabulous trip! Let me know what you decided on doing! 🙋

Thanks for the tips, Sabine. I will definitely stay in touch. We have some time in Portland on Thursday and then probably a little more time coming back for our flight home the next Friday. I have one whole day to plan! I do appreciate your local input!

Those are stunning photos. I’m glad you got to visit and had the time to take all those photos. My son went there when he was here but I didn’t think I was up to the trip then. He took lots of photos but I don’t think I saw them. You took some excellent shots. Hope you are having a wonderfilled week. Giant hugs.

Thank you Marlene! It was just the day I had been needing and longing for! I hope that you will come along some day! You’d really like it. Lots of places to sit and gaze, a large paved trail around the entire place and small trail off of the path. Over 80 landscaped acres! There even is a train you can hop on and off on the grounds. Anyway, I woke up happy and hopeful today for the first time in a long while. 😉 Hugs back at you! I’ll send an email tonight!
