Winter Magic at The Oregon Garden, Part One

After a bit too much holiday drama last year, the Zendog and I decided to do something different for Christmas this year.
So we did!

We headed to the Oregon Garden in Silverton. This charming small town is just about an hour southeast of Portland in the northern Willamette Valley. We had reserved a room at the Oregon Garden Resort and were pleasantly surprised by all the amenities this place offers. Great rooms with natural gas fireplaces, a fine restaurant (though vegan and vegetarian choices were few), a lounge with a double-sided wood burning fireplace and of course access to the Oregon Garden.

We arrived on Christmas eve, just in time to check in, and then go for a walk in the Garden. It was cold and a bit foggy, which made the scenery seem incredibly quiet and peaceful. Once we returned to the lodge, we snagged a couple of seats right by the crackling fire to warm our almost frozen bodies while also enjoying a glass of wine.

Christmas morning we sipped a leisurely cup of coffee in bed before heading back out into the garden.

It was beautiful, and deserted, and so quiet! I finally discovered the “Secret Garden”, which one enters through a blue door. This secret passage way eluded me during my last visit in October.

When we awoke the day after Christmas, it had snowed a little overnight. The light, fluffy snow cover transformed the entire Oregon Garden into yet another winter wonderland. I quickly got ready, changed the battery in my camera and went off to, as the Zendog said, to snap away. And that’s exactly what I did.

This was definitely one of the best Christmases I’ve ever experienced.

    Beautiful and peaceful! The last couple of years Lonny and I have hiked Shevlin Park on Christmas morning. This year the sun was bright which made the ice crystals on Tumalo Creek simply amazing. That was our respite from all of the Holiday busyness. Happy New Year! 🙏🏻🌲🥂

      Hi Marlene! It was a great opportunity to step out of the box and do the unexpected! 😉 The cold temps were just part of it and so gave us a reason to sit by the fire. I’m happy to hear that you are resting and taking it easy!
