This doe and her fawns have been coming through the forest behind us since the beginning of the year. I remember the first time I spotted them. The fawns were much smaller, still had white spots on their backs and their tiny legs appeared wobbly in moments.
Most weeks, I see them two or three times. At first the fawns were shy and immediately scampered off into the woods whenever we had an encounter near the fence. Now they are much bigger, and for once didn’t run off into the woods.

The deer and I just stood and paused while checking each other out.

I hope you had a Zen Sunday!

  2. Nice! We just had a little buck and two does wander through our front yard. They stopped and ate on the maple tree and then wandered off. Such gentle creatures. ❤️ Have a great week, Sabine!

I love the way the chain link fence shows up in these images. I didn’t know what it was at first. I thought it was just artsy photography. And it is! When we focus on the beauty the fences disappear! Nice job Sabine!

  4. Sabine – how beautiful these sweet deer are. Their expressive eyes and big ears and looking backward, and forward, so intently at you. Obviously they have have no fear and are happy to be in your presence. 🙂

      • Watching deer and their fawns up close – I am so envious of you. Lucky I can vicariously enjoy your pictures and narrative Sabine. Those squirrels have their work cut out for them now that Fall has arrived. I bought them some apples and I’m hoping I can get down to the Park Wednesday, the only clear morning this week. I’ve gone down there later in the day on a weekend sometimes and my squirrel buddies have already gone to their nests and are not out and about.

  5. It’s not Sunday anymore.:( Where did the time go? I’ve been working in the yard a little at a time and so wish I could see such sweet deer. All I get are bugs and spiders. I can’t believe how relaxed they are with you there. They must know you have no screaming kids or yappy dogs to scare them. You are an animal whisperer and they pose for you. Great photos of them.

    • Hey Marlene, come over anytime to watch the deer! I’m going out into the yard today to do some fall clean-up and planting. I wonder what I’ll spy!?! The deer are some of my very favorite visitors though as they’re always so calm and curious. I hope you get to enjoy our nice fall weather this week! 🙋

      • Thanks, Sabine. Getting things done but not as fast as I’d hoped. Now I have to go to the storage unit to find my glue sticks. I hate having stuff where I can’t get to it. I’m hurrying outside too as we have rain (maybe) coming Friday and all next week. Keeping my fingers crossed as the ground is way dry below the surface. I’ll keep you posted. Enjoy your deer. 😉

      • Sounds very busy on your end! And yes, I will enjoy the deer! 🦌 Perhaps a stag one of these days. I saw one years ago, and that was the one and only time. Have a good rest of the week!
