Which side is greener?
This flock of fluffy finches
can’t seem to decide …
Late Friday afternoon I noticed a kinglet foraging for insects in the butterfly bush. After watching it for a while I went inside to get my camera. By the time I got back the kinglet had moved on as this delightful flock of American goldfinches arrived. They were hopping from the fence to the branches and back again, nibbling some thistle and sunflower seed here and there, until they suddenly flew off. This is the first year since moving here that we’ve had a fair number of goldfinches come through.
What birds are visiting right now where you are?

Greener, cleaner, that’s their scene -er, so nice of them to drop in for this photo op!

Thanks Marlene! I’m positive that you get many of the same birds. We’re not that far from each other and some birds might have a large enough territory to cover both our neighborhoods. 🙋

They are beautiful! We get goldfinches and chaffinches from the finch family, and lots of house sparrows!

Those chaffinches are beautiful. I have some videos of a bird singing way up in a tree in Canterbury. I never saw the bird, but I think it might be one of those finches. Thanks for reading Ali! 😊

They are soooooo cute! Most of the migratory birds have already left Michigan. I did see two crows this afternoon and a hawk yesterday. I guess the bigger birds can withstand the cold.

Now I am curious about bird migration and size! My guess would be that it has to do with food sources. Crows are scavengers, and hawks will eat anything they can catch. That probably helps them survive your winters better. The goldfinches were fun to watch as they are quite gregarious! 🙋
