    Oh, Sabine, this is a wonder poem and the photos are stunning. I really loved the two with fluttering wings and the last one with the roses against the moon is enchanting.

    Sweet little birdies! I saw a beautiful orange-red solstice sunset at Bodega Head. I was waiting for the moon to come up til I realized that it was hiding behind the clouds. Still, it was beautiful moonlight filtered through the clouds. I love your moon and christmas roses. The poem captors it all so well. I will share this with Rosalie tonight.

    Your photos are always beautiful Sabine, but these are just stellar. I like how you make the lights look blurry in the background and the whirring of the birds’ wings … this is what I aim to study on my camera, to do these wonderful things and not just shoot on automatic. Most of the time I use the digital compact, but I do have to learn more on the DSLR that I got this Summer, especially when I see your beautiful shots. The close-ups of the birds and the one with his little red cap and the last shot of the roses against the moon – just awesome!

      Thank you for your kind words Linda! Sometimes the best shots are accidental! 😉 I recommend you check out some books on nature photography from the library. I do it and always get inspired to experiment with different settings and angles and … If you want some book titles let me know. The bird with the ruby cap is a ruby-crowned kinglet. And my Christmas rose I rescued at the end of the bare root season for $2.00! It has been blooming for me for ten years. Merry Christmas Linda! 🎄

        And it is always so exciting to look at those shots afterward, and not even remember seeing the beautiful image at the time because you were so “in the moment” … I took some photography classes many years ago (around 1980) when I first got the 35 mm camera and used to travel a lot, but I always used the “automatic” setting as a crutch. I only use the DSLR on the weekends or holidays when I have more time, so I really need to expand my horizons. My friend told me to use the sports setting on the camera to capture the wildlife action until I got comfortable with the settings. So I have been doing that, but there is no setting like that on the digital compact that I use most times when I am walking. That ruby-crowned kinglet was beautiful and I believe he was showing off his crown to you. I have a rose I got at Frank’s Nursery, which has been out of business at least 20 years … it was an end-of-the-season deal for $1.00 and it looked bedraggled and I thought “what the heck, I’ll try it” … same thing, it is a bush rose called “Dream Cloud” and is a pretty shell pink which continues to bloom all these years. I am sure I planted it when I did the original garden in the backyard (1985). It even survived the back-to-back Polar Vortexes when the supposedly hardy butterfly bushes bit the dust. I will ask you about the nature photography books later when I have mastered the camera … I would like to learn how to take videos on it, I’ve not even tried that yet I am ashamed to say.     I fell asleep before I got a chance to comment but that meant I was able to have another good look at those awesome shots you keep getting!!!! The Solstice moon was stunning on the 21 but the scattered clouds obscured everything else. How you get the wings in motion is so impressive and those that know are in agreement. Happy Christmas Eve.
