Years ago I planted a “Cotton Candy” white butterfly bush right outside our bedroom window. During the summer months we leave the windows open and many mornings I wake up to the sound of hummingbird wings whirring by. I open my eyes and am treated to the fast-moving silhouette of a hummer feasting on the nectar of these blossoms.
🙂
You got some good shots there. I haven’t seen a flower on mine yet but I think next summer it will be big enough. The hummers lose out to the bees on the purple bushes.

Marlene, I think the white ones grow a little slower in the beginning. But after a couple of years they’re going to be big as well. I didn’t get that many bees this summer! Also not many butterflies. I wonder why?

No butterflies here either. Just bees.

Amazing photos, Sabine! I’m always surprised at how loud their wings are for being so small. They like sipping on my hanging baskets. Have a great weekend!

Sweet shots, Sabine. I’ll have to look into the requirements of the Cotton Candy bushes! 🙂

Thanks Tom! This variety is a dwarf (not exactly in reality) sterile variety. Here out West they thrive almost anywhere and have become invasive. I have a couple of other ones, the “Dark Knight” and a lavender one that started to grow in a flower bed a few years ago. They’re great plants, fairly drought resistant plus they don’t need much care beyond a good pruning in the fall. And the fragrance is delightful. They smell really sweet! 🙂
