One sign that spring is springing in my garden is when the daffodils start blooming.
The sun has been shining a little more, but it’s still quite cold some days.
I look forward to spending more time outside in the sun.

Yes, the daffy down dillys are bloomin’…. And my little daffy imp likes to pick them and then forget them! Fortunately I have a lot. And sometimes we get them into a vase.
A very lovely photo display of the daffodil. Thank you, Sabine!

  2. Someone years ago planted some daffodils on a small isolated rock down the inlet. I suspect someone died and they wanted to honour them? It has no name on the map but I call it Daffodil rock.
    I like your macro work!

    • Thanks Wayne! I like Daffodil Rock! It sounds really peaceful and cheery. When we lived in Northern California there were vast patches of daffodils blooming along the freeway off and on ramps. They were planted as a fundraiser for a good cause. I don’t remember the exact details, but they always made me smile when I’d drive past them. 🙂

  3. One glorious daffodil indeed Sabine. I like how you showed this beauty from bud to full-blown flower. There is a small group of them blooming across the street right now. They were there for many decades and the original homeowner died in 2010 and the family sold the house and the landlord tore out all the flower beds and missed these daffodils as they were not in bloom. We were good friends with the neighbor, so every Springtime I think of her and her tenacious daffs.

    • Isn’t it interesting how certain flowers evoke certain memories! It’s sad that the guy across the street destroyed the flowerbeds. Some people just can’t be bothered. Luckily some of those daffodils stuck around for you to enjoy! 🙂

      • I hated to see what they did with Mrs. Elmore’s gardens. Her front and side gardens were such a delight to see come Spring. The daffodils and tulips were beautiful and she had them for decades. In her backyard, she had perennials around the entire perimeter. There were a string of renters in that house and finally the landlord sold it and these people keep one of their cars in the backyard. They have a double garage and double driveway but I can see it when I come up the street. They don’t have a fence near the garage … remembering how she loved her flowers, it hurts my heart to see this. Sadder still was she developed dementia after her husband passed away from cancer, and she used to stand in the driveway holding her watering can sometimes. It was sad as she didn’t recognize my mom nor I and she was finally put into a nursing home facility.

      • Yes, she was so proud of her perennial gardens all around the house. Many years ago, the City ripped up the easement behind her house (just on their side only). They got a letter saying they would be removing any bushes or plants to do the project. It wasn’t bad enough they had a large lot, so they parked some equipment in it, she had her birdbath and a slew of coneflowers too. Her husband got five-gallon buckets and dirt and planted the coneflowers in each one and brought them to our house and I just watered and fertilized them along with mine. When they were done (many weeks later), she and her husband retrieved the buckets and replanted everything. She lost nothing, but had huge ruts in the yard.
