Hummingbird Magic!

Years ago I planted a “Cotton Candy” white butterfly bush right outside our bedroom window. During the summer months we leave the windows open and many mornings I wake up to the sound of hummingbird wings whirring by. I open my eyes and am treated to the fast-moving silhouette of a hummer feasting on the nectar of these blossoms.

  1. You got some good shots there. I haven’t seen a flower on mine yet but I think next summer it will be big enough. The hummers lose out to the bees on the purple bushes.

  2. Bravo! – and lucky way to wake each day! Wow! I especially like the last photo. You and your camera have a gift. Thanks for passing it to others. I love that last photo. – Trish

    • Thanks Tom! This variety is a dwarf (not exactly in reality) sterile variety. Here out West they thrive almost anywhere and have become invasive. I have a couple of other ones, the “Dark Knight” and a lavender one that started to grow in a flower bed a few years ago. They’re great plants, fairly drought resistant plus they don’t need much care beyond a good pruning in the fall. And the fragrance is delightful. They smell really sweet! 🙂
