Under gloomy skies
summer’s fragrant last blossoms
dazzle in first fall rain.

  1. Very pretty, Sabine. I especially like the first photo, but then the yellow/pink blossoms are some of my favorites. Have a peaceful Sunday!

    • Thank you, Tom! Our roses probably will fade once we get some frost, but one of mine is getting new flower buds and some are opening up! I think our climate is milder here. 🙂

    • Thanks Trudy! That’s exactly how they looked in the rose garden last week! I’ll stop by there tomorrow on my way to my drawing class and check how they are faring. I hope all is well with you! 🙋

    • Thanks Linda! I took the photos with my iPhone. Tomorrow I’ll be over there again and will check up on how the roses look now. I still have some starting to flower here at home! Sometimes they keep going until November if it’s not too cold!

      • The iPhone does a great job Sabine. I did not take my roses down last year as we had rain many weekends in October and they were still blooming and then we had the early November snow (which was gone one day later). It was a beautiful sight with the snow on the open blooms and there were still buds and I took photos for a post, but I’m sure it did not do the roses much good. They did rally back but the wacky weather this year has left them looking a little beaten up.

  2. I love the top rose the best too but you get extra points for how the raindrops look on all of them. Stunning. I have just started seeing flowers in a whole new light after the rain. I took my roses all the way down this year. They just haven’t been doing well. I’ll feed the roots and see if they do better next year. These photos inspire me.

    • Thanks Marlene! I was surprised by how well the iPhone cooperated with capture of the raindrops. I love that rose garden because I always feel inspired when I stop by there! Roses need a lot of direct sunlight and a fair amount of fertilizer. My roses at home always do well despite my not watering them all that often. I fertilize mostly by spreading a little compost. I’ve heard that crushed eggshells (blend them with some water) are really good too. The weather has been beautiful the last few days! Perfect for being outside! 🙋

      • Roses don’t want frequent watering so you are good there. They like infrequent Deep watering. They like banana peels too. That gives you the calcium and the potassium. I’ve been inside most of the day. People are burning in their fireplaces so I have to wear a mask when going out. Getting rid of more fabric..
