Oregon’s Nature Nooks … NorthClackamas Park

After I had noticed the swallows around the bird house I began stopping by the nesting box every time I visited the park, once upon arriving and then again after my walk before leaving. Somehow, I never saw the swallows and never heard any sounds coming from the nest. Soon I began to wonder if this bird house was really being used, or if the swallows had picked another home. I had almost given up on ever seeing any baby swallows there, when nearly three months later I spotted one of the parents up on the roof with an insect in its beak. Yes!! It was my lucky day!! I slowly and carefully approached the nest. A couple of hungry nestlings were calling for their parents to hurry up and feed them. I don’t remember how long I stayed there, but long enough for the Zendog to call me and check if everything was okay. I had lost track of time taking pictures and also just sitting on a nearby bench to watch and enjoy this moment.

“Are you my mother?”

What a special moment to witness this family of swallows.
I then decided to go for my walk and return afterwards to watch these birds some more.
And that’s exactly what I did …

    • You’re welcome Trish! Springlake has lots of bird houses for bluebirds down when you go in the back way via Montgomery. But I don’t think there’s any wisteria. I hope to hear about your park adventures!

  1. Ahhh, that makes my day. Isn’t it relaxing to be able to enjoy God’s creation? Btw, great pictures, Sabine. Have a great week! 😊

      • Oh thanks! I haven’t done a food post for a year. I do a lot of cooking, just not the writing about it. I think I just became weary with the process.

One thing I made recently that would be right up your alley: it was a kale and farro bowl with chickpeas, sundried tomatoes and avocado, all topped with a lemon-mustard vinaigrette. Terribly delicious and kept well for a couple days in the refrigerator! 🤗

      • It is time consuming to create posts! I still cook a lot, actually every day, too and have started baking some mean sourdough bread. Trying to get my head in the right p,ace to write about it. It’s been so stressful with all that’s going on around us.
Your chickpea bowl sound delicious. I’ll have to create something like it since I have all the ingredients except for the avocado. Thanks for the idea! 😋

  2. What good fortune to see these swallow nestlings and capture their sweet faces … I would have done the same as you and lost all track of time watching them and taking photos and the video.
