post covid day dreams
into the wild blue yonder
here, there, everywhere.
Some of the things I have really missed this year are:
my annual California road trip to connect with friends I’ve known half of my life
spending time at my favorite beach taking pictures and collecting shells
going inside the library to browse the shelves and say hello to my friends there
Sweet Tomatoes ( a self-serve soup & salad bar restaurant now permanently closed)
hanging out with our friends and kids in person
taking art classes at the community center and local high school
chatting up close with Brittany, my favorite produce person in the world
Despite all those things that I miss I count myself lucky to have:
my health, a happy home and all the things I need
friends and family whom I love and who love me
to be able to browse the library online and arrange for contact-free pickup
the Zendog who’s been doing a great job cutting my hair
time to walk at and explore my local park
a beautiful garden where birds and animals visit everyday
the blogosphere where I can travel afar safely from home
What have you missed this year?
Be safe, stay healthy and in good spirits!
🙂

Hey Sabine – I think the biggest thing I miss is seeing unmasked faces. And, hugs. I’m a touch-person, so I want to shake hands, give a pay on the arm or a full on hug. Those are now saved for my family only. I’m very grateful that we live in the same town and are in my bubble.
Not all is gloom. I see my kids and their kids doing more activities together like camping and playing board games, hiking and going on bike rides. Home cooked meals are happening and crafting projects. So, in the grand scheme of things, I’m very thankful.
I hope you have a Happy New Year!

You are right Missy! Unmasked faces are something I really miss too. And handshakes. And hugging. You are lucky to have your kids and grandkids in your bubble. Our kids both work and have had numerous COVID infections at work. For now we just meet up in the driveway and visit. It makes me sad but I figure better safe than sorry. I like that people cook more at home and spend quality family time together. That’s how families were years ago and it’s nice seeing those things make a comeback! Stay healthy and Happy New Year to you too! 🙋♀️

I find there is more stress in the world,so I miss living in a world with less stress.
I like Missy’s answer best and agree with her.

I like both, Missy’s response and yours as well. The world has become a much more stressful place for all of us. I hope that each and everyone of us humans will learn from this and help make the world a better place for all!

that is a good reminder for us to remember as we walk forward together into this strange and unknown year Sabine!

Indeed! What a year it’s been! But you know what, despite all the bad stuff there was also a lot to be hopeful about. I saw far more birds at the park and humans for the most part have also been friendlier. 🙂

Well at first I thought these were bubbles you had created, then I remembered your phone’s fish eye lens – very cool and look at the blue and colors from the sky. You have a long list of favorite items to do … I know last year you were under the weather for a while with a bad cold and had missed some art classes and felt badly about it … I hope all these normal and enjoyable places and things you do are back next year Sabine. I usually try to lump my errands together to not miss walking days and I’ve not run any errands since November 23rd, but I miss just walking out the door without figuring how many things I can get done, will I get them done and get myself back home and “degermed” on time for work to avoid going on the weekend with all the crowds.

Me too Sabine – our nerves could not take much more … if the pandemic was not bad enough, the election and leading up to it, and the unrest … you had it bad in your neck of the woods in that regard. I hope things will stabilize on many levels in 2021.

Gorgeous photos! To answer question, I have enjoyed Zoom meetings with family who live all over the country and even Germany. I have enjoyed the fabulous relationship I’ve had with my cats. I’ve enjoyed getting back in touch with cousins, via phone of course.
I will miss Sweet Tomatoes, too. We don’t have them here but they were a treat when we visited family in FL. I will continue to miss my cousin, my long-time writer friend, my brother-in-law and my aunt to name a few of the folks in my circle of family and friends who did not make it to 2021. I miss getting my hair trimmed (although I do love that it is below my waist now, which it hasn’t been since high school). I missed the wonderful Christmas party my neighbor throws every year. Oh, and I really miss the gym.
Thanks for asking, Sabine.

Thanks LuAnne! The photos I made using a cool app I purchased a couple of years ago. It’s fun playing around with it.
I to have been reconnecting with old friends from my early days here in the US and I’ve started doing FaceTime with my sister in Germany on Friday mornings. So far I’ve escaped the world od Zoom. Funny how we adapt to changing circumstances when we don’t have a choice. Your loss of friends and family members must have been difficult, given that gatherings and in person visits were impossible.
I am hopeful that things will get better now that we’re just about ready to have a kind, compassionate, caring and competent new president.
Be well and stay safe! 🙂
