This rufous hummingbird is feasting …

flitting from blossom to blossom …

back and forth …

up and down …

and around and around …

until it’s time to move on!

        They are delightful to see in your posts. No luck for me and I took the feeders down for a bit. Torrential rain daily is watering down the nectar and the ant moat (part of the feeders) is an open invitation for this invasive Asian Tiger Mosquito found in our county (deadly like with West Nile Virus, Zika Virus or EEE). We have rain this p.m., nice tomorrow, then rain every day again likely thru the weekend. I don’t want to take chances. I put any water-catching yard ornaments away for good as well.

        I am glad you enjoyed this hummer, Linda! Luckily I haven’t had any issues with ants or wasps around the feeders. I got some baffles to put over the feeders during the rainy season to avoid the diluting of nectar. I’d be cautious as well if we had all those insects in our area. We could use some of your rain here! Everything is bone dry out west! I have been watering established shrubs I never had to water after they were established. Hopefully the weather plays nice for you this weekend! 🙋‍♀️

        I did – the eyes in the one picture, had his eyes lit up at seeing that flower. I never thought about baffles for the hummingbird feeders to keep the rain off the feeder. I have each one on its own shepherd’s hook, but mine are not the lantern-style feeders; they are the flatter, high-perch style. I guess it would still work … I have to look into that for next year because the rain was so bad this year, it was filled up to the top. We had moderate drought in early June and then from June 15th to July 15th, had 15 inches of rain. Our severe weather has passed – the warning light is off the weather alarm. (Thank goodness for that.)

    That’s an amazing photo. One thing in life I would really like to see would be a hummingbird in the flesh. I’ve never seen them, except on TV…❣️‼️❓⁉️🐦🐦
