A
utumn sun sparkles
while summer’s drifting away …
one leaf at a time.

Summer seems to have come to a sudden end here in the Pacific Northwest! We’ve had quite a few rainy days already and the nights are getting cooler. Slowly the leaves are beginning to turn colors and the sunlight is getting softer. This creek sparkled in the gentle autumn light and I loved how the trees, clouds and blue sky were reflected in the slow flowing water. In the distance I could hear dogs playing and barking at the dog park. The children’s playground was quiet and deserted … a sure sign that school has begun and summer’s gone!

I’m so not ready for this!

  1. Today is a perfect example of Autumn. Beautiful rain and cool temps. I love it but looking forward to the sun again tomorrow to finish my outside work. The weather is going back and forth until it settles on cold. It’s hard to believe autumn is finally here. I love it. We are cozied up today. Hope you are too.

    • Iโ€™ve been watching the raindrops falling on the bamboo and it looks so beautiful! I love fall too, Marlene, but Iโ€™m never ready when it first appears. Good for you getting your outside work mostly done! I have a ways to go and we need to get the trees trimmed. We are cozied up here and had a delicious chowder for dinner! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Funny, how autumn seemed to arrive as soon as September did. It was beautiful and warm yesterday, and today was cool and cloudy. I love the angle of the sun in your photos; soft and beautiful. Have a fabulous week, Sabine!

Yes, the season is turning. My corn stalks are dry and rattling in the wind. I love that sound. Still hot days, but much cooler nights. We had rain, last week, and beautiful sunsets and this week, the hot dry Autumnal winds!

Sabine, This is a very nice poem. Do you have your poems gathered into one document? Iโ€™d like very much to look at the collection. The wedding is over. My house is almost put back together from the remodel. Iโ€™ll soon be looking for another project. I think this poem is very nice. Lets talk in a few days. – Trish Taylor

    • Thank you, Trish Taylor! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I was thinking of you guys yesterday! My poems are a bit scattered in different notebooks and on a couple of computers. I will make gathering them in one place another project and perhaps one day we could talk about how you put together Rosalieโ€™s poems and art. I so love that little book filled with so many treasures from throughout her life. You did an incredible job!! Iโ€™m going to the post office tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    • Thank you, Tom! ๐Ÿ˜Š I do look forward to fall except that it leads to what we call the grey and wet season here in the Pacific Northwest. Come to think of it, there werenโ€™t nearly as many insects and other critters around here this summer. And Iโ€™m still hoping to see a frog!

  5. Sabine – You’ve captured the reflection on the water, the sun filtering through the trees, the water rushing … even a poem. There is a beauty, yet sadness when Fall arrives. The end of carefree Summer days and hunkering down for the Winter ahead.

    • Thank you, Linda! It really was a magical moment at the creek! While I mourn summerโ€™s end, I also will enjoy autumn and even winter. Itโ€™s just hard to make the mental switch when itโ€™s actually happening! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Yes, this is true Sabine. Fall had always been my favorite season (hopefully Mother Nature behaves, unlike Summer) and I’m looking forward to it. This morning was gorgeous, but we are headed back to the heat and humidity for the weekend once again unfortunately.

      • I had the news on earlier this evening and the weather is going to turn rapidly colder, just to the 50s the first week of October. The up/downs of the weather is just incredible. This weekend will be very hot though. I am looking forward to Fall – I love the colors, not just the leaves, but the decor as well, putting on a sweatshirt or light jacket.
